We are made to move!
Since first our species evolved, we’ve migrated around the whole world. For some of us, those itchy feet don’t like to settle permanently without the occasional wander to satisfy the itch!
I’ve been enjoying a lot of quotes from Roman Payne lately. He’s an American novelist who moved to France nearly two decades ago, and he writes in a very evocative and poetic style.
This photograph is from my 2015 visit to Ontario, which included a lovely few days in the region around Niagara-on-the-Lake. This was taken around sunset, before we sat down to a wonderful dinner on the outdoor terrace at the Two Sisters Vineyard.

I love that saying and it is os true. Now I am curious will look it Roman Payne. I have done a lot of vineyards in Niagara but missed that one!
Two sisters? The restaurant there is lovely. Very very good Italian food using top quality ingredients. Enjoy!
Dearest Kavita,
I am so happy that my words have been an inspiration to you, and I thank you for sharing your kind thoughts about me with your readers. I wish you all the best things in the world. Wander far, wander well!
Love,
Roman
Oh. Thank you so much. I love this quote so much, it’s such a beautiful and thought-provoking way of expressing the idea. I’m glad you like the post. ❤️
This one resonates strongly with me. My whole family lived a nomadic existence for much of my childhood. We did manage to stay put for eight years, but for the rest of the time, we moved at least every year, if not more frequently. And, I believe it’s done me nothing but good…
It’s a way of really understanding the differences around the world, isn’t it?
This is such a beautiful quote, thanks for sharing. It has truly inspired me to keep moving, keep exploring and keep growing xx
Lovely to hear, glad you liked!
I love this! I’m actually beginning a slow process of moving to Vietnam this Sunday, so this quote really resonated with me. Thanks for that!
Oh gosh that’s very exciting, best of luck for your move!
Wow, I love this quote! I feel like it speaks to me alot and I would love to share this with my mother who wants me to move back home and live the “american dream.” haha
I’m a firm believer that you should live *your* dream and no one else’s! Your mother’s dream may be the American life path but yours doesn’t have to be!
So much to learn from that quote…we have legs so that we can roam! I really wish more and more start following that…world would certainly become a better place to live 🙂
Yeah, true!
So cool to have Roman himself drop by! It is a great quote; one to remember.
It made my day!
This quote is wonderful. I completely believe in it. Since childhood, I have got the opportunity to move from one place to another. It gave me the opportunity make new friends in different places.
Yes, that’s a lovely way to put it.
Very lovely picture and very apt quote to go with it.
we have legs so that we can roam! I really wish I never stop doing that. This world is a great teacher.
Thank you! I hope you can keep roaming!
What a lovely quote and the perfect description of the nature of wanderlust. I hope to make it to Ontario in the near future. I’ve heard it’s a beautiful place.
Thank you! Ontario is well worth visiting!
I’ve never heard of Roman Payne, but I’ll have to look into him.I find that quote very inspiring. I certainly agree that man has legs so he can wonder, and woman has legs so she can wander too!
I do think it’s talking about mankind, not just one gender!
This is so true. I love Roman Payne quotes, he’s such an inspiration. I agree with Stella above me, we women wander as well! Xx
I don’t think the quote is gender-specific!
I am always looking for quotes that inspire me so I am so glad that I came across this, I love it! Thanks for the inspiration!
Happy you like it.
I love this. I am trying to come up with new ways to explain to our family our obsessive need to keep moving and seeing more. I will use this quote on them next !
Wonderful! Hope they like it!
What a wonderful saying and one I have not heard before. I think travelling makes one more open minded and accepting of others, and that can only be a good thing.
I agree! A pleasure to introduce you to it!
I love that quote. That is such beautiful saying. 🙂
🙂
Wow! I’m a big fan of Roman Payne and I felt so happy to bump into this to read one of my favourite quotes from him. I wish I never stop exploring. Lovely!
Yes, I love exploring!
That’s a beautiful sunset and a great quote. I am about to use my legs to go to the supermarket – I’d far rather be travelling though!
Yeah me too!
What a thought provoking and inspiring quote. As a wanderer by nature, I truly appreciate this message. Growth comes with travel!
Thanks, it’s lovely isn’t it?!
I love this quote! I have always loved to travel so roaming is in my nature.. and blog name LOL. I think that we grow by traveling and I am so lucky to have found a group of people who enjoy doing the same. Thanks for this reminder 🙂
Excellent, you totally get it then!
I love this quote! We are definitely made to move and this Roman Rayne quote captures the essence of this perfectly. The Two Sisters Vineyard in your photo looks so peaceful too – the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun goes down!
It’s a lovely place to visit!
Love the photo, and those who have legs to wonder can admire those who are part of the land
yes!
Truly love this quote – we were all nomads at one point, however as we discovered how to farm we evolved into a society which didn’t need to leave the settlement we created. We have almost forgotten what it is to move between lands, countries and border, but I feel that this is what truly makes us free 🙂
I think that’s exactly right. I know we also have that drive to settle, but I think it does us good to also move outside of our narrow home life and see how others live, see the world!
This is such a beautiful quote. I couldnt agree more. It is good for us to get out and wander, but sometimes I also like to stay in one place and enjoy being at home.
Yes both are important in balance!
I couldn’t agree more! I believe we are meant to move and discover how wonderful the world is.
Beautiful quote and great reminder to live and experience life fully!
Totally agree!
It’s a beautiful quote! And no better place to wander than in Canada! I found this quote over a bridge in Toronto that is the same sentiment – “This river I step in is not the river I stand in.”
Oh that’s beautiful too!
That’s a lovely travel quote I hadn’t come across before. It kind of suits me.
You and me both!
