Where Did We Go in 2017?

It’s not felt like a very travel-heavy year and yet I’ve still enjoyed some great trips through 2017. When I review them all, I really appreciate that it’s been another great year of exploring the world.

We started the year with a fantastic fortnight in which we visited Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Hong Kong was so much fun and just as great for food as I’d expected; our highlight was a walking tour of Tai Po Market in the New Territories.

Macau is often dismissed with a scornful reference to its growing congration of casinos but our full-on day side-stepped this completely and focused instead on Macau’s history, culture and food.

In Taiwan, we split our time betweenย Taroko Gorge National Park and Taipei, from where we loved our half day cable car excursion to Maokong. We also loved visiting the Taipei nightmarkets for food!

In early spring, we revisited a favourite UK destination, staying near Fowey and enjoying some of Cornwall’s key botanical attractions in both the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Paris was once a regular haunt for Pete and I but we’d not been for many years, so it was a wonderful rediscovery for me when I was invited to learn about Bistronomie in Paris. I’m determined that Pete and I will get back to Paris in the next 12 months!

We celebrated a birthday and an anniversary during a long weekend in Stockholm, delighted to discover Sweden’s capital city is a true gem for food lovers. The Stockholm food tour we took was a great orientation to the city’s diverse dining.

Another gastronomic delight is the Alentego region of Portugal, full of excellent food and wine, fascinating history and culture, and the most beautiful landscapes.

Thanks for reading and commenting on Kavey Eats, and sharing our food and travel journey this year. Wishing you a happy new year and here’s to 2018!

This made me look back in our year … It’s amazing how much we’ve done without realising it! And yet I’ve organised only two weekends (both to Lancashire) next year. Most unlike me! Enjoy your year ahead ๐Ÿ™‚

Once we get back from Thailand, I’ll have nothing upcoming in the travel diary so will need to get thinking, deciding, planning and booking!!

2017 was yet another busy year for us travel wise. Alentejo – I know how much you loved it there too! Various Uk trips, Torquay, Center Parks (with the grandchildren!), St Ives, Majorca, South Africa, Namibia and Basel.

2018 is looking good already! Jamaica, Crete, London, Padstow, Majorca, South Africa and Zimbabwe already booked with the possible addition of Athens, Weymouth and New York.

Love reading your food and travel adventures!
