Travel Quote Tuesday | Robert Frost

When fellow travel blogger Big World Small Pockets shared her top twelve travel quotes recently, I had a bit of a light bulb moment. I’ve been saving my favourite travel quotes for years and years and years but never thought to share them with my readers! I decided to share one quote a week, using my own travel photographs to showcase each one.

To start, one of my favourite passages by Robert Frost on an image taken in Antarctica.

This passage has always resonated with me, perhaps because I have not followed the more usual path through life of climbing the career ladder or having children.

And of course, the more literal connotations about travelling appeal too; I am not the most intrepid of explorers – I don’t feel a need to go to places no one else has ever seen before – but at the same time, I have travelled more widely than many of my peers to places that some might not put at the top of their list.

Shortly Before Sunset - taken on North Seymour Island, Galapagos

Antarctica is one such place; although visiting it is not so rare as all that, it’s not a travel destination that leaps to everyone’s minds. It has much to appeal, not least the incredible wildlife (penguins in the main part, but albatrosses, seals, whales and other birds too) but also the history of the polar explorers, and the stunning natural land- and sea-scapes. A summer visit means that the days are long, with the sun not quite setting before it’s rising again. I can no longer recall whether this was a sunset or sunrise!

I’ll be sharing a new travel quote every week. Find the rest of my Travel Quotes.

It’s an amazing place! We love wildlife holidays, and have enjoyed safaris in various countries in East and Southern Africa, and in India and parts of South America. This was a huge draw because of the penguin colonies – we saw several different species and they are all so very different. We’ve been twice now, once in 2004 and again in 2008. And we also did a lovely trip to the Falkland Islands for more bird watching. 🙂
