Travel Quote Tuesday | Vivian Swift

For me every trip is enjoyed in three parts – the anticipation, the trip itself and the memories.

With some trips, I start planning, researching and booking up to a year in advance (and in one case 18 months!) and so, by the time departure day finally rolls round the trip is already as familiar as an old friend, and the anticipation is enormous.

Because of all the planning and research, our trips go pretty smoothly although there are always a couple of minor hiccoughs! The planning never takes away from the immense joy and awe of travelling; rather it heightens the delight of finally being there! We don’t tend to create day by day itineraries unless it’s a self-drive route where we need to do things in a particular order – rather I’ll write up some notes on what we could see in that destination and we decide on the day according to what we feel like. So there’s plenty of room for spontaneity and seeing where the day takes us, but it’s underpinned by the advance research and planning.

After the trip, there’s the pleasure of sorting through all the photographs and sharing my experiences with friends, much of which right here on the blog under Kavey Eats Travel.

Beautiful quote and I love the penguin photo! I have found that right before a trip a have mixed feelings of excitement that the trip is almost here and sadness that once it starts it is almost over. Kinda strange… 🙂

Thoughtful and quite on the mark. I like to try to begin each day, or at least incorporate into a part of each day, that sense of ‘travel’ that you mention, so each day ends with at least a subtle hint of adventure.

That’s a great quote – and so true. I read something that said the longer in advance people anticipate their travel, the more they enjoy it when they actually go. I thought that was so interesting.

That seems to be true for me, I’m always slightly discombobulated when I end up doing a trip with short notice, and likewise when I am not the one who plans and organises it!

The planning part of the trip can be one of the most exciting parts. I love taking time to make my own itineraries.
