“Travel early and travel often. Live abroad, if you can. Understand cultures other than your own. As your understanding of other cultures increases, your understanding of yourself and your own culture will increase exponentially.” ~ Tom Freston
I’m a huge proponent of travelling – it’s not only fun and exciting and a break from one’s daily routine (though all those things are true too), it’s also educational, mind-opening and opinion-changing! Travelling can be transformative and the more of it a person is able to do, especially in their formative years, the better!
If you are lucky enough to be able to travel (whether early and often or late and occasionally), or to be able to live abroad for a while, then seize that opportunity with both hands and be thankful for it. And enjoy every moment! The insight and development of who you are, of your values and opinions, of your understanding and empathy for other cultures and your own, will grow and grow and grow!
This photograph is from a recent visit to Portugal’s Alentejo region. The beautiful buildings are the Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa, for centuries, the seat of House of Braganza, one of the most important noble houses in Portugal. On a sunny day, the blue sky makes the red tile roof and marble facade positively glow!
