Travel Quote Tuesday | A Man Could Wander All His Life

“Sometimes I think a man could wander across the disc all his life and not see everything there is to see,“ said Twoflower. “And now it seems there are lots of other worlds as well. When I think I might die without seeing a hundredth of all there is to see it makes me feel,“ he paused, then added, “well, humble, I suppose. And very angry, of course.“ ~ Terry Pratchett

This quote is from Pratchett’s ‘The Color of Magic’, the first novel in his Discworld series.

As far as we know so far, we only have this one world of ours to wander, and even then, a lifetime is not enough to see a hundredth of all there is to see! That does make me feel humble, but it also inspires and motivates me to see and experience as much as I can and to make the most of the single lifetime that I have to do it.

I actually just watched the TV series of the Colour of Magic and loved it. I didn’t realise that it was the very first of the DiscWorld series. And Pratchett’s words on travel are so true. We can’t see everything and every place in one lifetime. But we can see as much as we can!

What a great quote, and so true. I identify with the humble mention. I also feel that way sometimes in places where the scenery is bigger than your brain can interpret.

Oh..so true. I can totally relate. If I could, I would not hesitate to wander all the time. The world is definitely so big when it comes to places I would want to see, sometimes I feel a lifetime won’t be sufficient to see it all.

A really great quote and poignant too. I definitely haven’t seen enough of this world, but really hope I do one day. Though, I’m also happy with the places I’ve seen so far; that’s good for me too!

Great quote and so very true. Every time I plan my next trip, I literally stare at the map of the world and think about what I want to experience. Time constraints play a factor but there is yet so much more to explore. And as my daughter grows up, our travels are becoming a bit more adventurous!

I agree totally with this quote, that a man can wander for full of his life. Yes we have not even seen one thousandth of earth and there is much more to explore. Thanks for this inspirational travel quote.

A great thought-provoking quote here, and one I completely understand. We are so small and insignificant in this world, but that shouldn’t mean we shouldn’t try to explore as much of it as possible! Really great find here and inspirational words to guide one’s life by!

A hundredth of the earth – If I could see a hundredth of my own country I will feel blessed when dying. A great post.

I agree with you on – we only have this one world of ours to wander. A lifetime is not enough to see a hundredth of all there is to see! Lovely poster made. The pic and quotes define each other well.

So true – one life only and so much to see. However I want to see some over and over again. Anyways I cannot do the whole world this life – might as well enjoy what I see and do it again if I feel like it. 😀

This is so true and I feel so bad for people who spend their lifetime working 9-5 and then finally being excited to travel once they retire! There’s ap much to this world and it should be seen.

I can so relate. One life is way too short for the length and breadth of the world that I want to set foot on. 🙂 But, hey, I’m trying my best!

Thats a great quote. I can relate to it so much! I often think that there is so much to see in my world (in this case, I mean my country, India) that it will take more than a lifetime. When will I see the other world? And yes, this makes me humble as well as a bit angry!

That’s a quote I can totally relate too. While I feel humble for all that I have seen, I feel restless to wander more and see more.

As much as the quote resonates with me, I am very happy to see the world and experience how people live, what they see and breathe. I probably can’t see it all, but I am all for virtual experiences for capturing a small slice of what I can’t see

I want to do and see as much as possible too, though sometimes I get overwhelmed. Between working, adulting, and trying to find the time to travel it gets hectic. However, I will always sacrifice things to be able to see the world.
