Travel Quote Tuesday | Of Bold Spirit

β€œThe smaller the creature, the bolder its spirit.” ~ Suzy Kassem

Not technically a travel quote, this one, but it puts me in mind of many of the creatures I’ve encountered on wildlife holidays. Seeing wild animals living their lives in their natural habitats is a truly immense privilege.

There’s something very life-affirming about watching a small creature such as a warthog, mongoose or porcupine defend itself and its family from far larger predators β€“ a ferocity of willpower and survival instinct that leaves no room for self-doubt.

Humanity is distinct, I think, in our propensity for worry and the way we sometimes clutch at “I don’t think I can” instead of “I can” and “I will”.

Marine Iguana, Santiago Island, Galapagos

I was mesmerised by the marine iguanas of Santiago Island, one of the Galapagos Islands. Like many species found here, marine iguanas are endemic only to the Galapagos Islands. They are also quite unique among modern lizards in that they forage in the sea for their main food source of algae, larger males diving to the seabed while females and juveniles feed along the coastline at low tide. They live in colonies along the rocky shores, and are indifferent to tourists like me gawping in awe.

I think I’d like to apply this quote to myself – at just over 5ft I like to think I’m bold in spirit! I love watching wildlife too, we saw some epic lizards running along the side of the road in Malaysia. They were fun to watch.

Great quote. I agree there is something magical about seeing animals of all shapes and sizes in their natural habitat living life. How cool that you got to see iguanas in the Galapagos. That would definitely be an animal I would love to see.
There are many animals I have on my Bucket List Project that I want to witness in their natural environments. Cant wait to get out there and see them all!

We loved our time in the Galapagos Islands – such an incredible wildlife experience. Your quote actually reminds me of my last puppy (RIP) – he wasn’t a puppy when he passed actually, he was with us for a very long time, but one of the smallest dogs I’ve ever known, he would fiercely protect the house, and run up to pick a fight with dogs 10 times his size – seriously some of these dogs were so big they could have eaten him for lunch!! But his spirit was bold πŸ˜€

What a nice quote. It applies to many such animals , including human beings I suppose . Galapagos, I read, has so many species of animals not found anywhere else in the world. I surely would love to go there once.

Great inspirational quote and a fun reminder of my time in the Galapagos! I remember wandering among the iguanas and then not even batting an eye at us. They were just happy to bask in the sun. I suppose when you have boat fulls of tourist wandering through every day you get used to it!
