“Being able to travel and see the world really makes me appreciate the blessings in my life. There are so many people that will never get a chance to see some of the things that I’ve seen during my travels. I’ll never take that for granted.” ~ Laz Alonso
I’ve been travelling all my life, nearly five decades all told, from when I was just a baby through to today. I still find it thrilling, transformative, educational and magical and I am deeply conscious of how very lucky I am to be able to indulge in this passion of mine.
If you too are a lover of travel, if you are fortunate enough to be able to go and see the world, then perhaps you’d like to join me in being thankful for our shared good fortune and joy.
We fell in love with Namibia the first time we visited, back in 2001. The wide expansive landscapes (especially of the Namib Rand Desert), the tenacity and beauty of the flora and fauna, the warm welcome from our hosts, and our many magical experiences all served to identify this as a favourite and somewhere we wanted to return to. We went back a few years later in 2004, but that’s 13 years ago now so we’re long overdue a return to this beautiful land.
This photograph is of an Oryx, also known as a Gemsbok, striking not only for it’s large size but for it’s beautiful markings and impressive horns.

Such an amazing quote. In life, sometimes we forget how blessed we are to get certain things so easily and we take everything for granted. A wake up call is certainly required.
It’s good to stop and remember how lucky we are now and again!
Great quote. There are people who want to travel but not having the right situation to do so. We should be very grateful for our life.
So many people who can’t think beyond where they can get the next meal, running water, a warm place to sleep for the night…
This is great! I am a traveler and I too am grateful!
🙂
Namibia looks like your typical African land with lots of flora and fauna. I would love to explore the country and experience the hospitality of the local people, learn more about their culture and venture into the natural habitats of the wildlife too!
It’s an incredibly beautiful country, I need to go back. We went in 2001 and 2004 and are long overdue another visit!
Love the quote and I am in love with travel but I can’t fully manage to pursue my travels wishes quite yet. But I’ll get there:)
Keep striving and hopefully you’ll be able to continue travelling more each year!
I tell myself every day how lucky I am to travel. We should definitely never take it for granted. Lovely photo of the oryx too!
Thank you!
It is indeed blessed are those who travel for they see the world as others will never see. We realized this quite early in our travels as unique experiences swept us off our feed. A trip to Rwanda last year where we met the endangered mountain Gorillas face to face only served to underline this. We are really grateful for the opportunity to travel the world.
Yes, we are so lucky to have not just one “experience of a lifetime” but many, each one a real gift.
I just had a phone call from a friend who had a travelblog. She’s had a diagnosis of MS and can’t really travel any more – so this quote is quite pertinent. I feel very blessed
Very sorry to hear it. That said, I know friends and family with MS who have continued travelling for many many years following their diagnosis, even after a point where it seemed they would not be able to, so I hope she may find things improve for her in the future.
Great quote and we should be grateful. And I am grateful to my parents for traveling with me when I was young, even if not to exotic lands, and planting the seed for world curiosity. Namibia, wow cool.
Me too, it really instilled a sense of the world around me!
I’m South African, and it’s so nice to see this picture of the Gemsbok and hear how much you love Namibia. And of course, the quote is very true!
Thanks, so glad you like the photo and the quote!
Agree we need to be thankful that we are able to travel and all the other great stuff in our lives. It is too easy to take things for granted.
Yes it is, and we are so very lucky!
