“When I went to Venice my dream became my address.” ~ Marcel Proust
I’m always surprised when I hear a traveller tell me they didn’t think much of Venice, that they didn’t feel its magic or fall for its beauty.
It’s true that the crush of crowds in the key tourist sites of Piazza san Marco or Rialto Bridge can be off-putting but it’s so easy to move beyond these spaces and find the quieter corners of the city… the corners where you can relax, appreciate the history, architecture and beauty of this very unique and special city.
Our recent trip to Venice was our third, a whole week this time, after 5 nights on the first trip and 6 on the next – does that mean I can spend 8 nights next time?! And still I feel like there’s so much more of Venice to enjoy, not to mention revisiting and relishing once again the beauty of the parts we’ve already seen.
Is Venice a dream destination for you?
Murano is one of the islands in the Venetian Lagoon and a must-visit for anyone heading to Venice. It’s the centre of Venice’s glass making industry, with many shops selling beautiful glass souvenirs from ornaments and jewellery, to chandeliers and wall art.
