This quote from Mary Ritter Beard – a American historian, archivist, educationalist and suffragette activist – continues a theme I have visited in a number of my recent travel quotes, the personal growth and change that travel can bring. Seeing the sights – both those of natural beauty and manmade marvels – is a fantastic but fleeting experience but the memories and changes in one’s thinking can last forever.
This image was taken in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. To the left is the Christmas market, to the right the Bell Tower. The location is Vilnius’ Cathedral Square, also home to the cathedral and the newly constructed National Museum.

Lovely seasonal image and another great quote! I’m enjoying your travel tuesday series
Thanks Fiona!
That’s how I feel about so destinations, most recently Kenya. The way a place can move you so much nothing will be the same again!
I know just what you mean. That emotional change after visiting somewhere, especially somewhere you really fall in love with.
I love this, travel is so much more than just seeing places. I agree with you AND Mary!
🙂 Thanks my dear, hope you are having amazing experiences on your travels!
Wonderful quote, travel is so much more than just seeing places! Thank you for sharing 🙂

A great photo. I love the reflections on the ground and Christmas which is shining bright. Nice thoughts too.
Thank you, it was the reflections that caught my eye also.
Great travel quote. Definitely resonates with me and how I feel about my travel. Also, the photo is getting me excited for Christmas market season!
Thanks, I’m glad it’s getting you excited for Christmas markets. It was quite a small one but charming.
Very true words! Travel has certainly shaped my outlook on life. Christmas is my guilty pleasure too!!
Yes, shaping one’s outlook to life – great way to put it!
This is a wonderful quote. Travel is definitely more than just seeing sites. Being more mindful helps us fully experience a place and the whole travel experience.
Yes, I think we have so much to learn, not just about our destinations but about ourselves and our own societies but comparison.
I think Mary Ritter Beard is right. Travel certainly changes your perspective in life permanently. If more people travelled the world would be a better place.
Yes I think that’s true. Some people can’t see beyond their own little neighbourhoods. Makes them very insular.
I like this quote. I would love to check out the Christmas markets.
Thanks, I really want to visit some of the famous German Christmas markets one day!
A beautiful quote to match a beautiful photo. It is certainly a quote I can agree with. Christmas in Vilnius must be lovely!
Thanks Brenda, glad you like both quote and photo!
