“Every person needs a time out, away from stressful jobs, pressures from employers or clients, home responsibilities, etc., Everyone deserves to enjoy, visit unknown places, try other things, meet a lot of new friends, and feel at the top of the world. Life is full of fun, excitement, and adventure. Thus, vacation is an experience that’s worth remembering for a lifetime. It heals a weary mind and soul.” ~ Alon Calinao Dy
Like many, I dream of an ideal world… one in which poverty and extreme inequality are eradicated… in which all peoples all over the world are able to support ourselves and our families (and are willing to support those who are less able)… a world in which everyone is able to live a decent quality of life…
And in this ideal world, being able to take holidays (or vacations as our North American neighbours call them) will be a pleasure available to all, not just those lucky few of us who can afford to travel in today’s world. Whether it’s the ability to explore unknown places closer to home or farther afield, I’d love everyone to have that opportunity to set aside the pressures of daily life, and to renew themselves through the discovery and joy of new places, new friends, new activities.
What do you hope for from the year ahead?
A few winters ago, we did a family trip to the north of Sweden, visiting the famous Ice Hotel as well as Abisko, even farther north. Towards the end of December, winter is dark upon the land and the only warm light is man-made. Sweeping vistas of snow-covered landscapes are breathtaking and, even though the extreme cold is challenging and the darkness difficult to get used to, visiting this remote area is a hugely uplifting experience.
We hope you are able to take some time out this Christmas, whether it’s to rest and relax or find fun and adventure, or a little of both!
