Travel Quote Tuesday | Diane Ackerman

Human life is short. Short when compared to the lifespan of our species. Short against the existence of our world, our planet. And a mere blip in the vastness of universe.

But to us humans, the time we have is everything. We have this one chance to live, to love, to learn, to cry, to question, to explore and to experience all that we can.

I love this quote from Diane Ackerman, American poet, author and naturalist. Such a simple way to express such a very important thought.

King Penguins and Natural Ice Sculpture at Gold Harbour beach, South Georgia, Antarctica

Another from our first trip to Antarctica.

I don’t know whether this king penguin shared my appreciation for this ephemeral sculpture formed by the melting of ice on the beach, or whether he was simply practicing his courtship moves before trying them out on a fellow penguin, but I loved the way he curved in to echo the shape of the ice.

Ah! That is a perfect picture with the perfect quote. Just look how the penguin has bent itself to take the shape of that melting ice sculpture. Exactly one has this life and he/she should live the width of life more than its length.

That is a beautiful quote. A quote that gives you something to think about, and I couldn’t agree more. To me the width matters so much, it is the reason I travel, explore and seek adventure every day!

I once watched a movie, can’t remember its title, and they said that for human beings the most valued thing ever is time. Which is true if you think about it!

I didn’t even realize that was a piece of ice! What an amazing trip it must have been.

This is so true! If we stay inside out own comfort bubble we will just live. But once we step outside we are expanding and adding experiences worth remembering when we are old. My dream is to visit Antarctica as well. And one day I will!

Totally cool, he does look like he is practicing and how coincidental that the ice was shaped in that formation! So important to experience EVERYTHING in life, not to waste a single moment!

Thanks for the great quote! I think a lot of times people don’t really appreciate the meaning behind “Life is Short” until something happens to make them realize that accuracy of that statement. I think quotes like the one you shared we should keep in someplace where we will always see it so that we can strive every day to live life to the fullest.

Love this quote and a great mantra for living life to the fullest. It is easy to just float along and not experience things outside your comfort zone. You only have one life, so might as well enjoy it!

What an inspiring quote that sums up the meaning of life in a few words. Indeed life is ephemeral and the best way to live it is by savouring each and every moment to its full.

I love that quote. I love my life by the philosophy that I want memories not material things so this talks right to my purpose
