“With your foot upon its stones, its pictures before you, and its history in your mind, it is something past all writing or speaking of – almost past all thinking of.” ~ Charles Dickens, on Venice
There’s something very special about Venice – not only the extraordinary phenomenon of a city in which the ‘streets’ are made of water, but also the incredible beauty of its architecture, from ornate palaces to humble homes, and the fascinating history of the city, and its people. You could spend a lifetime learning about the many facets of Venice and still have more to learn.
We first went to Venice over two decades ago, and adored it. We went again a few years later and then again just recently, relishing in the luxury of a full week to spend enjoying Venice once again. We “lived” in a spacious apartment within a beautiful historic palace and spent our days and evenings wandering the city’s streets and alleys, riding boats along the canals, and visiting nearby islands. We shopped at local markets, ate in bacari, trattorie, osterie and ristoranti and whiled away our days soaking in the details of this magical city.
