Today’s quote is by Brian Jackman, a freelance writer with a love of wildlife and wild habitats, especially those of Africa.
I think anyone who has been on an African safari can identify with his words…
I took this image in Meru National Park in Kenya. The landscape is predominantly flat, punctuated by little kopjes (hills) and I love the distinctive doum palm trees that are prevalent in the area.

Africa is really something special, I have only spent two weeks there in The Gambia and a very brief trip to Senegal. I stayed in a village rather than the tourist area and it was such an experience. I will never forget it.
Oh that sounds really interesting. On one of our safaris in Botswana we went to a camp that was wholly run by the local African tribe in that area, and instead of the usual game drives, they offered walking safaris where they not only showed you animals etc. but also how their people had traditionally hunted and how they used certain plants in the landscape. In the evening they shared traditional foods and there was music, performances and dancing around the fire.
Gorgeous image! I have only been to northern Africa, so no safari for me but it’s on my “must get there eventually” list. Neil has been there travelling overland (weeks and weeks of it when he was much younger) and I know he would agree with this quote!
It’s an amazing experience, quite unlike other kinds of travel. For me, that sight of birds, wildlife and even flora in its natural habitat is just so thrilling.
I’ve been to three countries in Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe), and loved every one of them. Such an incredible place.
Yes! I’ve been to Botswana a couple of times and to South Africa, but not to Zimbabwe. It’s on my list though, as is Zambia.
What an inspiring. You have me dreaming of my time in Afica.
Thank you Bryan, I’m glad it brought back happy memories.
A beautiful quote with an equally gorgeous image.Having stayed the weekend in a Safari Lodge ,going on a Game Drive humbles you. Returning home to South Africa I appreciate ny continent more.
South Africa is a country truly blessed with the most amazing collection of wild spaces, with so many different landscapes, plenty of indigenous wildlife, stunning coasts, stunning mountain regions, stunning plains… everything you could ask for in one country!
What a beautiful quote.I was born in Africa so can fully relate to it.
I’ve always wanted to visit Africa. South Africa and Kenya mainly, but now also Ghana as my husband’s family are from there.
Great quote. I grew up in Africa (Zimbabwe) and have been on lots of safaris in Zim, South Africa, Botswana and Zambia. Each one is different and life enhancing. My Dad always used to say “Once you’ve got the dust of Africa on your shoes you’ll always return.”
Lovely shot and quote Kavey, I imagine a lion walking into the frame at any moment:-)
My husband was born in Lusaka Zambia. He has incredible and incredibly strong memories from his childhood there. It really does affect you. We would love to visit one day. Thanks for sharing this beautiful, thought-provoking quote
I never had a strong desire to go to Africa but have been hearing good things lately from friends. Perhaps I should go to Africa after all.
