Travel Quote Tuesday | The Desire To Fly

“The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who… looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through space… on the infinite highway of the air.” ~ Wilbur Wright

How can we – humans – look at the birds soaring above and not yearn to fly? It’s an obvious desire, I think, even for those of us with vertigo! I imagine the longing to share the freedom of the skies with the birds is what motivated the inventors of hot air balloons, airships and planes (including Wilbur Wright), giving rise to the ease of global travel today.

“The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who... looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through space... on the infinite highway of the air.” Wilbur Wright

I’m afraid I don’t remember! I asked my husband if he could remember which species this was, but we couldn’t. I might post in FB and see if anyone there knows, there are some great birders.

That’s such a great shot. It’s all about freedom isn’t it and birds always look so free.

I’m afraid I am one of those people that don’t have a yearning for flying. In fact it scares me! The yearning for freedom is satiated by travelling the world so I guess I’ll just have to keep doing that!

The evolution of man from standing up erect and walking to flying is a fascinating saga. I always wonder what thoughts would have gone in the mind of Man when he first saw birds flying up in the air. Would he have even dreamt that one day he would be flying in the air too? Thanks to the genius of people like the Wright brothers and many others Man has taken flight.

This is a beautiful picture of a beautiful animal. Birds of prey have a great fascination on me, not only for their hunting skills but for the graceful way of flying that these strong birds have. Great choice of picture for this quote!

If we have an opportunity to fly and travel, then grab it. Maybe our destiny awaits to us when we landed. Travel makes us a different person, makes us more human as a whole.

I’ve always wished I could fly, though ironically am a bit scared of airplanes. Maybe because I’m not the one driving! Lovely quote

Yeah, could be! Maybe take flying lessons in a little Cessna! Got to fly one of these a few times and it was MAGICAL!

Oh, how I’d love to fly. I was convinced I could do it when I was a child. I still have strong memories of doing so.

I think a lot of kids throw themselves off walls and so on trying to see if maybe they can!

Maybe one day humans will learn how to fly, with the help of modern technology. It must be such an amazing feeling to soar above the clouds

Wow! what a wonderful quote and really I am very envious of birds. They roam freely without any check points and visa problems. You have written the feelings of all travelers.

That’s such a beautiful quote. It reminds me of that song, “my dream is to fly, oh by the rainbow so high”. Coincidently i flew toady only 😛

This photo is absolutely stunning! Did you take it?! Assuming you did from the watermark, you have a real talent. I just can’t get the hang of wildlife photography.
