The Retreat Farm Shop, Deli and Cafe has just opened in a beautifully converted chapel in Llanover. Its a new location, but not a new business – owners Simon and Amy previously ran The Gardener’s Kitchen (located in the former post office by the little hump-backed bridge in Llanellen).
Their new site gives them a lot more space in which to run their Farm Shop, Deli and Cafe business. More space for their own-grown fruit, vegetables and flowers, all grown nearby. More space for the selection of local food and drink products, which is now expanding to include locally raised beef and lamb. More space for local arts and craft gifts. And more space for the deli and cafe.
We were introduced to Amy and Simon in 2020, just as the first pandemic lock-down came into force and were enormously grateful to snag a space on their fruit and veg box delivery, through which we also bought eggs and dairy, as well as their homemade sausage rolls and scotch eggs.
As soon as lock-downs eased we became customers of the store in person, often buying food to take home but also enjoying lunch or coffee and cake in their small cafe area.
We’ve popped in twice since they opened in late June, the first time for a late breakfast to celebrate their launch day and the next time for lunch.
Good quality ingredients make for great food and drink including hot chocolate and French toast with seasonal fruit compote for me and a cafe latte with an Angel bakery croissant for Pete.
For our latest lunch visit we ordered toasties but we can also recommend their scotch eggs, quiches, and sausage rolls.
It’s such a boon to have this kind of local business on our doorstep. You can do your grocery shopping here, pop in for some home-baked treats to take home (don’t miss their scotch eggs or their raspberries and toffee chocolate brownie) or sit in for breakfast, lunch or an anytime-of-day break for coffee and cake.

What a beautiful space, their business looks so at home there. Such a variety of lovely things and the veg looks wonderful! So good to have it near you.
The space really suits their business! We are very fortunate to have it nearby!

I’m not the business. This is a food blog and I’ve reviewed this business as a customer. You’ll need to go to them directly to ask these questions.

Hi Eluned, I’m not the Retreat, I’ve simply started a review of them. Please click on the link to their own Facebook page within the first line of my review and you can then message them for any information directly.
