Probably the most common base for ice creams submitted to Bloggers Scream For Ice Cream so far is custard, closely followed by cream. With the exception of the sorbet, granita and spoom challenge, of course!
This month, I’m inviting you to make an ice cream or semi-freddo using (sweetened) condensed milk – the stuff you buy in a tin – as your base. Most of the recipes I’ve come across combine the condensed milk with either cream or milk and then add flavourings as usual.
And great news for those of you who don’t have an ice cream machine – condensed milk ice creams don’t need churning as air is incorporated by whipping the cream.

ooooh… intriguing… never used this before with ice-creams…. I imagine it will produce a very sweet ice cream so I need to get my thinking caps on for something to counterbalance that… nice challenge though xx
Quite sweet but the double cream does pull that back a fair bit… for me, I love that undertone of caramel and the texture, which is just lovely.
Oooh I have some lovely ideas for this one Kavey. Will get something blogged asap.
Well condensed milk’s not on my normal shopping list but sounds interesting.
Well I love eating it straight out of the tin, so surely an ice cream with it must taste so good!
Looking forward to trying this. Just found you through Lora at Diary of a Mad Haus Frau. fun!
Just posted my recipe! Will send you the link and an image – great challenge! 🙂
Ignore my last comment then !!
Love the idea of this. It;’s the holidays and I’m not working this summer .. so I am going to try and take part in a few challenges and this one look delicious & my children will love it.

Mmmm, yes this sounds a bit different, but the fact no ice-cream maker is needed has drawn me in.
Posted my attempt, looks a bit wonky but tastes divine, chocolate, caramel & vanilla icecream 🙂
