When it comes to delicatessens in Abergavenny, it’s all change in the last year or so with closures and new openings transforming the town’s deli options. The good news is we have a superb range of delis selling all sorts of delicious food and drink. Check out our recommendations.
Madame Fromage
Madame Fromage, formerly of Cardiff, has taken over the premises on Nevill Street that were formerly home to Marches Deli.
They have an absolutely fantastic cheese counter, plus fresh breads and cakes, and a delicious signature menu of sandwiches, pies and more. They also sell a range of high quality deli products.
There are two tiny tables inside, but they currently have several outdoor tables set up out front. Their Croque Monsieur and Welsh Rarebit are really excellent!
The Angel Bakery
The Angel Bakery has moved from their small store on Lower Castle to a much larger shop on the corner of Monk Street and Cross Street, enabling them to add a wide range of deli products to their own-baked breads and pastries.
They also sell fruit and veg, raw meat and charcuterie, a small selection of cheeses, posh pasta and other dried pantry goods, and chocolate. Their pickled clementines are amazing!
The Gaff Coffee Shop & Deli
Dan and Dannii, founders of our much loved local restaurant The Gaff, have opened a Cafe-Deli on the High Street (where Coffee No.1 used to be). As well as their much loved scotch eggs, fabulous sausage rolls and other savoury pastries (which make the perfect lunch), they sell homemade sweet treats including brownies, flapjacks and doughnuts.
Also on sale are homemade chutneys, sauces, compound butters, as well as a changing selection of fridge items such as smoked salmon, black pudding, local cheeses, and a few other items from local producers that they champion.
Upstairs are plenty of tables if you want to eat or drink in.

What an enticing round-up! Certainly want to visit when we’re next Abergavenny way and the Kitchen Garden looks most inviting.
It’s lovely, they all are! 😁
I may never get to Abergavenny, but if I do, I’ll know where to eat! Beautiful post. Love your photos.
I hope you do get to visit and thank you for the kind comment! 😁
What perfect timing! Can’t wait to try some of these out – they sound wonderful. Thanks for the article, Kavey!
Thanks Aaron, you’ll definitely appreciate these lovely places.
We love the other 3 especially the Gaff but went to Gardners Kitchen today on your recommendation as didn’t know it was there and had some great things and now looking forward to going back to eat there in the beautiful outside area. It’s also great they are open until half 5 as we are often long for somewhere later in the afternoon, after work.
Really pleased you were able to discover a new place to visit, and I can tell that you’ll be a regular from now on! It’s such a lovely business, run by lovely people, and we love their savoury and sweet bakes!
Lovely selection of delis. Madame Fromage looks particularly tempting! Hope I will get chance to try it out for myself soon.
Hope so, looking forward to seeing you soon!
