Travel Quote Tuesday | Special Sunsets

“Every one of a hundred thousand cities around the world had its own special sunset, and it was worth going there, just once, if only to see the sun go down.” ~ Ryū Murakami

This quote is from Ryū Murakami’s novel Coin Locker Babies. Murakami is a Japanese novelist and filmmaker known for his explorations of human nature.

I’ve heard people say that if you’ve seen one sunset, you’ve seen them all! That statement is utterly shocking to me! Even in a single place, every evening brings a new sunset… and while they may sometimes be similar, when atmospheric and weather conditions conspire, they can also be entirely different.

When you consider watching the sun set in different places all around the world, the variety of beauty to be enjoyed is surely infinite?

What’s your favourite place to watch the sun set?

I think my favorite sunset spot has to be Koh Phangan. But I’ve seen amazing ones also in India and in Berlin where I live. Most magical time of day for sure 🙂

Different places do have different sunsets although it sounds like the same. On the other hand, in my mountain travels I don’t always get a proper sunset as the sun hides quickly behind the peaks. However, the colours of the peaks at such times are worth the effort.

Love your quote! I’ve never really thought about it, but it does make every sunset at every place as unique as it can be. I think one of the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen was in Boracay years ago (when the island was a bit less touristy).

Love this one, and it is so true. Sunsets are beautiful everywhere but it is also true that the location and the time of year makes a different to the colors of the sun rays, at least to the color and way we see them. But a sunset is a sunset and it is always beautiful

Beautiful. I also love Murakami and his works. Sunsets are so beautiful and I agree that it’s different for every city.

I too don’t agree with this statement. Acc to me all sunsets are different even at the same place or at different place. My favourite ones are from Sri Lanka for sure
