Travel Quote Tuesday | Go Forth Into The Unknown

“How do the geese know when to fly to the sun? Who tells them the seasons? How do we, humans, know when it is time to move on? As with the migrant birds, so surely with us, there is a voice within, if only we would listen to it, that tells us so certainly when to go forth into the unknown.” ~ Elizabeth Kübler-Ross

Before you point out that these are not geese, I took some artistic license in selecting an image for this quote, and chose this photo of great white pelicans in flight!

For those who feel the urge to travel – itchy feet as we so often call it – do you hear a voice within, do you feel an instinctive urge compelling you to go forth into the unknown? I sometimes wonder if the modern-day travel itch is simply a leftover instinct from the long ago eras in which our ancestors migrated from the cradle of mankind to discover and populate the rest of the world…

As with the migrant birds, so surely with us, there is a voice within, if only we would listen to it, that tells us so certainly when to go forth into the unknown.” Elizabeth Kübler-Ross

This photo of flying great white pelicans was taken at Lake Manyara in Tanzania in 2008. We enjoyed a glorious three week safari holiday exploring the landscapes and wildlife of Kenya and Tanzania.

I certainly get antsy. I also become unhappy if I stay in one place for too long. I feel like Im missing out on so much.

Yes! In normal life, I don’t much get FOMO, I enjoy my own little corner and activities and am happy. But when it comes to travel, I want to go and explore and see and learn and eat and do!!!

Great quote. I routinely go forth into the unknown. That is the best way to travel, you never know what adventure awaits.

Lol yes I was going to mention that they were pelicans 😀 But I love the quote – and I agree that there’s something instinctive in me, personally, like these geese (or pelicans), to explore the world – it’s an intrinsic part of my being that I have to get out and discover new places, experience new lands. After-all, we weren’t born with roots, we were born with feet!

Heh, beady eyes you have there but yeah, I didn’t have a handy goose picture! It’s great to find via blogging so many others who share this urge!

Reminded me of the following quote: “Travel as much as you can, as far as you can, as long as you can. Life’s not meant to be lived in one place.” Life becomes more exciting and meaningful when we venture into the unknown!

Beautiful quite. However, the geese travel only twice a year, while I have the urge to travel way more often than that, LOL!

Haaaa, I didn’t even think of this point but it’s so true… I feel the urge more often than twice a year too!

Ahhh.. I know that feeling.. There are times (especially nowadays) that I tend to be restless if I stay at home or if there are no upcoming trips to be excited and planned for. That urge to go out there and explore is definitely a feeling that I’ve been getting A LOT these days. Thankfully my husband fully supports me and understands the need to be out and traveling. 🙂

    Lovely quote btw. 🙂

Marvi, that’s great that he is supportive. When I met my husband he’d hardly travelled at all outside of the UK but I’ve been fortunate that he’s taken on my love of travel too so we can go together when the feet get itchy!

This is a beautiful quote. I know for me, that little voice is constantly telling me it’s time to visit somewhere new. 😉

Yes, though for me the voice is pulling me between places I’ve been and adored and places I’ve not been before. I alternate a bit!!

A beautiful picture with a beautiful quote. I have strong itchy feet. Indeed, if I am in my hometown for a month, I feel I am struck and there is a big fear of missing out. The inner voice keeps on telling every day its time to go somewhere.

Birds don’t get there due. Fly thousands of miles and return to the same nesting site every year. We humans wouldn’t be able to do this without your gps guiding us.
