Travel Quote Tuesday | Roselle Mercier Montgomery

‘Never a ship sails out of bay but carries my heart as a stowaway.’

I guess the modern equivalent for me might be – whenever a friend heads off to somewhere exciting on their travels, my heart feels a yearning to go too. With so many incredible experiences and memories from the trips I’ve made already, I’m still wanting more. Do you feel the same way?

Roselle Mercier Montgomery was an American poetess born in the late 19th century.

On a ship, I think in the Antarctic.

Thanks Janie, yes I think it’s that emotion of yearning to go that I think so many of us who love to travel often feel.

Yes I know what you mean. When it’s winter I think about sunny trips like safaris in Africa, in summer I think about polar regions, when I’m in a city I think about heading to a place of natural beauty…

Yeah I hear you. A sun-dazzled Mediterranean coastline or a dusty African savannah with cheetahs stalking through the grass!

Sitting in the midwest US, feeling the briskness of winter, I have been yearning to head south as I see friends and fellow bloggers posting on social media from warmer locales. Don’t mind winter, but must say, I enjoy a warm beach a lot more!

I know just what you mean. That’s exactly it – it’s not that I don’t love where I am – London is one of the best cities in the world, even though winter is dark and cold! It’s that photos and stories from people visiting other places always make me wistful to be travelling too!

I have never heard this quote before, it is quite nice. One of my favorites is a Mark Twain quote – “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor.”

I love that one, it’s another of my very favourites! I have this crazy long file of quotes I’ve been gathering for years and years! Thanks Rob!

Yes, a bygone era of exploration! I do love my creature comforts though so I think the idea is more romantic than the reality probably was!

Yes! I want to see it all and even go back to some places I’ve fallen in love with. Being a part time traveler is a challenge, I look forward to the day I can travel full time!

Totally agree, we have many new places on our list but we like to go back to old favourites too!

Oh yes once you’ve been bitten by the travel bug there’s no hope. We always find ourselves getting itchy feet to jet off and experience something new. We’re trying to teach ourselves to live and be happy in the now. But it’s so difficult, when you know there’s a big wide world out there & so little time to see it all 😉 Keep inspiring, love the Austins

Completely agree with you. When I’m home I long to travel and can ease that a lot by planning the next big adventure but if we’re away from home too long at a time, I miss the homelife!

We have found people have yearned after the travels we’ve been doing. At the same time we’ve often yearned to be home. Such is life

Seen, entered but so many talented photographers I doubt I have much chance. I rather suspect they’ll go for some bright young thing who wants to build an entire career in the field, rather than an old has-been who just happens to love travel photography.

Lovely quote of yours which yet again makes me want to book more holidays! I can’t believe how chilly it has turned in the UK just now too!
