Raise a Glass to Tipple Box | Review Giveaway

This decade is the decade that food and drink subscription services took off. Whether it’s British charcuterie, recipe meal kits or cheese toasties through the post, the selection of fantastic treats now available to buy online for delivery direct to your door has never been so wide and it continues to proliferate with new ideas and brands popping up every month.

Tipple Box is one such service, sending monthly craft cocktail boxes featuring spirits, mixers, extras and recipes for you to make two delicious cocktails each month.

Launched by Sonny Charles in December 2014, I first tried Tipple Box at the beginning of 2015. Back then, I thought it was promising but needed a few tweaks. I wanted to see small batch spirits by indies (rather than the big brands I could readily find in my supermarket) plus higher quality mixers and custom-made extras such as flavoured syrups, bitters or salts. I also suggested dropping the jam jar to focus solely on ingredients, and making sure the recipes worked flawlessly and deliciously every time.

All these suggestions have been taken on board, and Sonny’s latest box is a far more professional and appealing proposition.

There is more focus on smaller brands now – the kind I may not readily find in my local supermarket – and Tipple Box also work directly with small producers to provide own brand ingredients.

All cocktail boxes include at least four 5cl bottles of spirits plus any other ingredients you will need. Recipe cards are clear and easy to follow.

French Martini

My box contains two recipes – a French Martini and a Bloody Mary. For the French Martini, pictured above, I have Ruby Blue Vodka, Tipple Box Raspberry Vodka Liqueur, Strawberry Sugar Syrup and Frobishers Pineapple Juice. Egg white is listed as an optional extra, though I made my cocktail without it. The Bloody Mary ingredients are the same Ruby Blue Vodka plus a Chilli Pepper Vodka and a bottle of Isle of Wight Tomato Juice.

The cocktails are delicious, and there’s enough to make at least two of each, with some ingredients left over to experiment with further.

Tipple Box also offer a Batch Spirits subscription of three 5cl bottles from a different producer each month.

The craft cocktail box is priced at £24 (including delivery) for a one off, with the price per box dropping for 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions. For the batch spirits box, it’s £15 for a one off, with similar discounting for subscriptions. There are also a range of tasting sets and cocktail boxes available to select and buy from the site’s online shop.

My favourite cocktail (out of a long list of cocktails I like) has to be the Hemingway Daiquiri. I love all things lime, and this was such a revelation to taste when every daiquiri I’d tried before it had been the sweet, fluorescent, slush puppy versions. I like my Hemingway Daiquiri to go easy on the sugar syrup, leaving the sharp citrus to contrast with the sweet maraschino.

As an aside, I’m chuffed to see a Northern Irish spirit included in the box – Ruby Blue vodka. Maybe some day there’ll be a Shortcross or Jawbox Gin in there too 🙂

Ooooh favourite cocktail…that’s a hard one! I love a classis negroni made with gin, vermouth and Campari. I like it because it’s all alcohol LOL! I’m not a huge fan of cocktails where the alcool is drowned out by sweet syrups and fruit juices. Good luck everyone!

Actually I’ve not had many cocktails that I don’t like. I’m also not tried that many either. I used to love creamy ones when I was younger, but these days I’ve joined the ranks of the majority and just love mojitos. It’s the combination of mint and lime that does it!

I’m a BIG cocktail fan, I go for fruity, sweet things usually. There’s a cocktail in TGI Friday called Rainbow Sherbet, it’s a slush and it makes the world a better place. I’m not sure what’s in it… But it’s great. Also love a new suggestion from a friend of mine, I’m unsure of the name, but it’s a scoop of lemon sorbet, with a shot of vodka poured over it, topped up with prosecco. Delicious!

I don’t have twitter, so fingers crossed this is enough! Tipple box looks awesome!

Probably a Clover Club because it’s got a nice long history, the fruit gives it a little sweetness but not too much, and if the bartender is keen, the drink will have a nice foam head. It’s probably the one I’ll go for most often because it’s nice and simple. I do like a good Old Fashioned (made with bourbon) if it’s a late night drink to sip. Although my friend once made a twist on an Aviation which is delicious, although sadly there’s only about three bartenders who know what it is and how to make it, because I keep forgetting to ask for the recipe!

Ok I know this is going to sound girly, but I’m being honest. B52 is my favourite cocktail. It reminds me of the girly holidays I had before I settled down and married, of carefree days spent on the beach sleepily sunbathing and then dipping into the sea to cool off. Who doesn’t love a cocktail that you can set light to. So yeah a B52 will always have my heart.

My favourite cocktail is a Manhattan. I love it for lots of reasons – partly because I’ve never been a fan of over sweetened, fruity drinks, and a Manhattan doesn’t have all the fizzy bits and paraphernalia so beloved of many cocktail bars, and partly because every time I have one I remember my first ever, in a beautiful elegant cocktail bar in Hong Kong, with floor to ceiling windows and fabulous views of the harbour outside, with the lights reflecting on the water. It was a perfect moment that I can relive every time I drink a Manhattan

My favourite cocktail is the classic Harvey Wallbanger. I was introduced to it years ago when I was at University. My then boyfriend was from London and was much more street wise and cooler than me. I remember it was my 21st birthday and we went to a local pub for a cocktail night. I just loved it – the taste is delicious and the colour is lovely and bright. Plus it’s so easy to make. I just make sure that I’ve got a bottle of Galliano in the house especially in summer. It’s my signature drink. My husband sorts out the BBQ and I sort out the cocktail.
