Some Like It Hot! Hot Vimto makes its way South

It’s hot up North!

No, really – that’s the slogan for a campaign by Vimto to spread Manchester’s beloved Hot Vimto tradition further afield.

As a huge fan of Vimto, I’m up for that!

I’ll drink ‘bena if it’s all that’s on offer, but it’s Vimto (and C-Vit) that I seek out. I regularly enjoy Vimto cordial and it’s canned fizzy drink version too.

And now and then, I’ll indulge in a Hot Vimto – simply pour boiling water over a slug of cordial for an instant winter warmer.

Strangely, this idea seems to be treated with some suspicion in the South, though I’ve been a fan for as long as I can remember. Then again, I weirded out university hall mates by drinking instant custard powder made in a mug of boiling water (instead of milk) and other such hot drink inventions and I’d occasionally put green food colouring in my milk to discourage raids from the thieving lot downstairs! (My corridor mates knew my green milk was safe and they were welcome to borrow some!)

Recently, Vimto suggested sending me a basket of their products to rekindle my love of Vimto. I hadn’t actually forgotten but was happy to be reminded anyway, especially when they threw in a couple of extra bottles to share the Hot Vimto love with my readers.

I'm a northerner and as much as I love vimto cold or fizzy, I never got it hot. I'm a beena girl when it comes to something hot and fruity 🙂 craftilicious at rocketmail dot com

(As you already knew I would say) I LOVE HOT VIMTO! I've been drinking hot Vimto since I was a tiny Manchester lass and it is my favourite to the point of cordial exclusivity in this house. Sod hot lemon, hot Vimto is the best just in from the cold/just getting over a cold drink there is. You can even add a shot of vodka if you really want to stave off that chilly nip (an addition that began in my 20s, not when I was little!) Everyone at uni thought I was mad for drinking hot Vimto too but I soon showed them.

I am so immensely jealous of your Vimto connections. I might write to Vimto anyway and declare my undying Mancunian love.

My fave hot drink is the one taken after a long winter walk or a day working outside. It could be soup, it could be tea, it could be Lemsip, it might be Bovril. Its the sensation of starting to feel warm again and that your days trials are drawing to a conclusion.
